Surely, when someone hears the word cocaine, all he/she could think of is addiction. Cocaine seems to connote a negative idea and even more, a negative emotion towards people. This substance is known to be easily abused and thus, users eventually become addicted to it and the cycle goes on and on. like any other substance addiction, cocaine addiction destroys one’s life. It changes anyone, his perspectives, his motives, perception, and behaviors.

Metamphetamine is an extremely addictive drug. Similar to most drugs, once abused, it could result to harmful effects towards the user’s body. Upon entering the brain, methamphetamine triggers the rapid release of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine which control feelings of pleasure. It is very active in mesolimbic reward pathways of the brain which causes intense euphoria.

While going to college I have seen first hand how a 12 step campus can benefit an individual. While not an alcoholic myself, I have drug users in my family, and my group of friends. One of my closest friends decided to try a twelve step programon campus ninety days ago and the results have been incredible. She has taken that brave first step of admission, and surrendered her decisions to a higher power and a group of supporters. This has enabled her to curb her addiction one day at a time. The twelve step campus she is a member of gives her the confidence to stand tall in tough situations where her addiction could normally get the better of her. Within ninety days she has improved her positive energy, her healthy habits and most of all, her enjoyment of life. She writes in her diary every night after doing her homework and before going to sleep, about the challenges she overcame that day. She calls her sponsor at seven a.m. every morning before class to commit her plan for the day. The amount of dedication she has to this twelve step program is admirable and makes me question what I’m missing out on. I claim no dangerous habits of my own, but is that the truth?

Today we are facing an ever growing facet in society of uneducated teenagers. Perhaps not undereducated in the sense that don’t go to school. But undereducated in the arena of alcohol abuse information. The information is out there, but there seem to be a lack of alcohol abuse information classes that are correctly structured for the appropriate age groups.

At the age of 19 I was in a terrible car accident and broke 123 bones in my body. The paramedics who arrived first said that by the looks of the car they guessed no one could have possibly survived. Somehow I did. I was awake when they found me and I remember saying something about my phone being off the hook and I needed to call my dad. I had no feeling in my legs.
